CIO, Financial Planner

Blake Sandvold is the Chief Investment Officer and a financial planner at Sandvold Financial Group. As CIO, Blake leads the firm’s investment research and strategy, translating his analysis of the markets into thoughtful, individualized plans for the families and business owners the firm serves. He also provides ongoing investment education for the firm’s planners and staff, a role he genuinely loves, whether he’s walking a client through the “why” behind a recommendation or sharpening the team’s thinking on a complex case.

Blake’s work is driven by a fascination with the markets and a passion for the craft of planning itself. He’s drawn to the more nuanced corners of the field, including multigenerational wealth transfer, business owner exit and succession planning, advanced tax-aware investment design, and the kind of complex, coordinated planning that high-net-worth families need. Charitable giving sits at the core of how he plans. As a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®), Blake helps clients build giving into the foundation of their plan rather than treating it as an afterthought. He integrates donor-advised funds, charitable trusts, and legacy strategies into the broader picture.

Working alongside family at Sandvold Financial Group is something Blake genuinely values. The family business roots shape how the team shows up for clients, with the same care, patience, and long-view thinking they would bring to their own families.

Blake joined Sandvold Financial Group after earning his degree in Financial Management from the University of St. Thomas. He is a CFP® professional and a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®). He also holds his Series 7, 63, and 66 securities registrations, as well as Minnesota Life, Accident and Health, and Property and Casualty Insurance licenses.

Active in the community, Blake is a member of the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce and serves as board chair of the Wayzata Conservancy. He also co-hosts the firm’s weekly “Money Talks” radio show alongside Terry Sandvold, where the two break down market updates, planning topics, and current events for listeners across the Twin Cities.

Outside of work, Blake’s world centers on his wife and three daughters. The family spends as much time as possible at their cabin up north, and Blake stays active year-round through tennis and golf, both by playing himself and cheering on the girls at their activities.
